Why I Design

Mark Twain famously said, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you'll never have to work a day in your life.” That’s how I feel about designing. It’s a part of me and my experiences - woven into who I am since childhood - and something that I love sharing with my clients. It’s shaped my belief that great design is deeply personal, reflecting your story, experiences, and personality.

My love for design began in North Carolina, where I grew up surrounded by furniture makers, historic preservationists, and old house enthusiasts. Some of my earliest memories - wandering through my Grandparents’ 1700s Vermont farmhouse, watching my dad work in his woodshop, and admiring my Grandmother’s ever-evolving interiors - shaped the way I see and approach design today. My Grandmother’s home was a storybook of colors, textures, and eras, curated with purpose and heart. It wasn’t a single design style or aesthetic that fit neatly in a box, yet somehow every room felt like it should be in a design magazine. Many of those pieces live in my own home today, carrying those stories forward for my children.

Those experiences instilled in me a passion for creating spaces that are purposeful, beautiful, and full of character. My aesthetic is rooted in my Southern upbringing, love of historic homes, and time spent living abroad in England - where design so often blended heritage, comfort, and quiet elegance - in a way that always felt timeless and deeply lived-in. Whether it’s curated vintage treasures, heirloom pieces, or bold, refined elements, every design I create for clients is meant to feel timeless, layered, and distinctly them.

This blog is where I’ll share a closer look at our projects, behind-the-scenes design considerations, and the inspiration that drives our work. I hope it becomes a space where you find ideas, insight, and maybe even the spark to reimagine your own home.

Thank you for being here—and welcome to the journey.
